7 Ways to Make Your Booth Display Increase Sales

What is the purpose of going to a trade show?

It could vary from company to company, but mainly it is to build awareness about your brand, generate leads, and increase sales.

How do you do that?

First, obviously you need to attend the trade show.
Second, have a plan with an equipped team to execute successfully in order to leave a lasting impression on the event attendees.
Third, have a booth display that makes people want to know more about you.

Of course you need a cool product or service to show off as well but what will initially catch their eye?  Your exhibit.

How do you know your exhibit is eye catching?

Staring at something for days, even months, could be difficult to catch mistakes without any fresh pair of eyes looking at it.  Therefore, here are 7 guidelines to follow to make sure your booth will positively impact your sales.

1. Location, Location, Location

It is all about the location.  Having a good location that is easy to access is extremely important.  After all, how will people find you if they cannot see you?

Something to keep in mind - getting a great location is not always going to be easy to come by.  Especially if this IS your first rodeo.  If it is important to you to grab the perfect spot, make sure you look into it extra early, and be willing to spend a little more too.

In the end, it will be worth it.  Most prime locations sell out fast, so if this is your first one and you happen to miss out on your chance to land the best location, make sure you make really good friends with the “gate keepers,” when you are at the show.  Most importantly if you plan on attending the year after.

If you find the event is something you want to make long term, (in other words make it a permanent show you attend every year), try negotiating that into your contract if you choose to make one.

2. Make it Shiny

People love shiny expensive looking things that are appealing to the eye.  You may not have to make your booth look like a sparkling diamond ring but at least make it look appealing.

Buyers are drawn to good looking booths, it’s as simple as that.  Therefore, it is important to put a lot of effort into your booth design, even the messaging behind it.  You want your voice to be clear.

One thing that is not appealing is confusion.  Make your both unique and noticeable, but in a simplified way. How do you do that?  Talk to the experts. There are people whose jobs revolve around designing the perfect exhibit. Include the design work into your budget.  Doing it on your own is not the smartest thing.  Having good salesman may be a good asset.  Though, if your booth does not match your voice, it will end up hurting you.

 3. Be Approachable

Though people love shiny things, they don’t like intimidating ones.  If an “exhibit,” looks out of one's league then they may feel uneasy about checking it out. People like to feel comfortable.  There is a way to look appealing, but not overly expensive.  Don’t over do it.  Stick to your message, your theme, and why you are there in the first place.

4. Specified Hosts  

It is a good idea to include “booth hosts,” as members of your team.  Hopefully the sales people will be constantly talking to leads all day.  Therefore, they will not be able to direct the people that look lost or need help right away.

Another thing people hate is lines.  We all hate lines.  No one likes to wait.  That's why it is good to have a few extra team members there to keep them entertained, and direct them to the right person.

Some shows have “booth babes.”That is another topic we will discuss later. Whatever way you decide to do it, consider having one or two hosts to assist with whatever the customers may need while everyone else is busy trying to make a sale.

5. Highlight the Goods

Who doesn’t love a good sale?  Buyers are on the lookout for a good bargain so whatever special you decide to have for the event, showcase the mess out of it. Make sure it is noticeable too.  This is not something to be modest about. When you got it flaunt it.  You want everyone in that event base to know that you have the best deal around, and you're going to steal all of their customers because of it.

6. Provide Nourishment for those tiresome bodies

What do people love more than a good sale?  FREE food and drinks!  Trade shows are fun, but they also can be tiring, for everyone.  Be good samaritans and provide snacks and refreshments to your customers.  Maybe you're next to your biggest competitor as far as having the best booth display, but you guys have free food?  Who do you think is going to have a longer line?  Your product may not be the immediate reason why people are coming to see you, but at least you have some bait to reel some prospects in.

Last but not least, number 7 - tell all about it. 

Obviously, we mainly mean this by social media.  To make it clear though, don't wait until the day of to let people know you are at the event.  Start promoting it on social media at least two weeks in advance.  Then once you're there, show and interact with live feed about the show in order to stay up to date, as well as keep your followers involved with what you are doing.  Now-a-days, if it's not happening on social media, it's not happening.
